Notes on a Medicine Drum Dream Journey January 2023
By Sarah Delanty
Ten curious and willing souls gathered together in Bend, Oregon, at the Hanai Foundation https://hanaifoundation.org for a shamanic journey. Facilitated by Jordanna Anawalt, a Congruent Communication Coach with a passion for guiding humans on their journey of self-empowered well-BEing through co-creative acts of conscious choice. More info on her site: https://www.choicetribe.com
My intention for this journey was to make a strong, easy, and swift connection with the divine; ascended masters, guides, spirit animal guides, archangels, personal angels, and ancestors in Spirit. My heart is always open to all of them, and I allow for these connections and am consistently receptive to their healing messages. In addition, I intend to remember how I connect with Spirit as I honor and recognize my divine self through trust, faith, and love.
Part 1
Jordanna had just called in the four directions of the medicine wheel and, with gratitude, thanked the First Nations tribes that were here first, the people of the high desert in central Oregon. https://www.deschuteslandtrust.org/news/blog/2020-blog-posts/indigenous-peoples-central- Oregon-traditional-lands.
Jordanna begins the ceremony by having the group gather together in a circle to smudge and offer a gift to Spirit with a pinch of tobacco. Afterward, we start Ha breathing https://surginglife.com/ha-breathing-technique-ha-the-huna-breath-of-life-infuse-with-energy/ for a few minutes as we gradually transition into a quick dance of shaking hands and bouncing bodies as we remain in place to release anything that no longer serves us to Mother Earth.
Energies raised, we lay down on our backs, creating a circle with our heads in the direction of the center. As steady drumming matching a heartbeat begins, Jordanna calls in for support from the ancestors. I feel their warm presence and clairvoyantly observe a group of translucent orbs within a swirl of purple light, gathered in a circle together around our group. I feel incredibly safe. I drift into my divine consciousness with the beat of the drum.
Part 2
Soft, pink feather-like roots sprouted from my feet, ankles, and legs. They are so fragile that if I wanted to release myself from their warm embrace, I would only have to blow them off gently. Anchoring me into the ground, they spread further into the earth and eventually wind around to the base of a juniper tree. The tendrils tether me to the juniper by climbing upwards and circling around the trunk. I am firmly grounded in sensing the juniper's connection to Mother Earth's core.
I look up and see a silver star in the twilight sky. Nothing extraordinary but still beautiful as two branches shoot out the back of my skull and forehead. Glossy white with green leaves, they reach upwards into the sky to grab the star. They were instantly connecting me to another time of bountiful resilience.
As I breathe into my heart space of jade green, my energy expands, carrying me to a familiar place where my Spirit Guide awaits. He's tending a fire the same color as my heart space, a beautiful translucent jade green with sparks of orange jumping from the fire. He chants as he catches my eye and smiles but quickly looks back into the flame. A coyote joins us and sits next to his friend. I sense that they are soul twins and belong together as equals. I asked him for his name, and he told me Tonto. I thought he was joking because Spirit does that with me a lot. But also because of the stereotypes that come with that name. I have since then done some research and discovered that there is a First Nation tribe from what we now know as Arizona called the Tonto Apache. I learned a lesson here always trust what Spirit tells you! He is mighty and will often morph from a handsome younger man to a significantly older man with long silver hair. His eyes remain wise, dark, and knowing no matter what age. Clairaudiently, I receive, "Welcome back, and where have you been? Do you now understand how easy it is to connect with us when you want to? It's as easy as taking a breath. Come softly, little one; we will always be here when you need us."
Part 3
The drumming continues as I find myself inside an oval-shaped clear container. Firstly, the element of fire fills up the space. Sparks whoosh powerfully all around me, but the flames are not hot without a body. I open the bottom of the container, and the fire pours out as ash. Secondly, the next element is air fills the container with a warm tropical breeze that smells of flowers. I open the bottom once again and, this time, step out, refreshed and energized. I see the original green fire in the distance and walk toward it, but I take a quick look back, and the container is now glowing cobalt blue. I sense that I will return someday. Grandfather Tonto is still present, and we sit together by the green fire. I feel a presence standing placing a cloak over my shoulders. It is the spirit animal Bear! As she returns to all fours, my cover falls off, and I turn into a pillar of white light energy that arcs upwards into the twilight sky.
Part 4
Several spirit animals appear, including Bear, Rabbit, Fox, Wolf, Cougar, and Bobcat, along with several birds. Eagle flies over me as I look over the red cliffs and boulders, realizing I am in the ancient lands of Sedona and the Mongolian Rim, nearby where the Tonto Apache tribes once lived. Eagle lands and hops over to me as I stand barefoot in the red soil, which is powdery like red flour. Eagle is very playful and bobs and shifts its head from side to side; all the while, his eyes pierce into me, but he never moves his sharp eyes off me. I am fixated on his eyes and yellow beak as I shrink down to a size enabling me to climb onto his back. We fly from the red rocks, and I see a large cactus plant with pink flowers. Thinking we will stop there, but Eagle continues into a pine forest. We land at the foot of an old-growth Ponderosa Pine. I smell the vanilla emanating from the red bark. Eagle morphs into a rather chatty Raven, making clicking, rattling, and cooing sounds as she ascends the trunk. I am slightly smaller than Raven and decide to follow her, mimicking her movements. It's a hopping dance that makes for a lively and quick ascent. At the top, I see we are in the middle of a deep old-growth forest so thick that there are no pathways or trails. I view mountain ranges in the distance. We sit together in deep appreciation and joy on top of the soft canopy as a warm breeze gently rocks us back and forth. It is time to leave, and Raven's shape shifts back into Eagle. Once again, I find myself holding onto the back of Eagle's soft neck, burrowing my face into his white feathers. I turn my face as my cheek rests on his neck like a pillow to see the landscape's splendor beneath us: mountains, forests, layered rocks, boulders, and creeks winding and carving through ancient canyons. Eventually, we reach a more northern place, a desert containing old-growth junipers and sages.
Part 5
We returned to the original place at the beginning of my journey, but the sky was now a sunrise blue, and it was morning. Grandfather Tonto makes an appearance one more time, with the green fire still alive. I walk over and find a beautiful gift, a transparent yellow chunk of rough citrine crystal, on the ground next to the fire. I pick it up and hold the crystal in my hand. I look over my left shoulder and see that Bear left it there. She, too, looks over her left shoulder as she walks away with an intentional waddle. Left hip, baboom, right hip baboom, Left hip baboom, right hip baboom, keeping in the rhythm of the drum's heartbeat. I find myself with Eagle standing in front of the original juniper tree. Eagle is now Raven as I watch the trunk open up, revealing red, gold, burnt orange, and yellow colors vibrating and pulsating. Raven bows goodbye and takes off, beating its strong black wings. Still drawn to the colors, I curl up inside the warm womb of the trunk. I hear a mechanical swoosh sound like a transporter, but I'm too much in awe to begin wondering where it could take me. I feel it dissipate as I return to consciousness and my human body.
Part 6
I was still lying down in my safe spot with my fellow journeyers around me. My body is cumbersome, and my knees ache. We take turns around the circle sharing our experiences about nonordinary reality. Coming back into reality, I begin to interpret. Lastly, we sit together to conclude and say aloud in unison:
Drum into my cells the conscious Awareness in the full embodiment of my dreams, goals, and highest intentions. Drum into my cells the conscious awareness to acknowledge that all I send out into the cosmos is already accomplished. As above, so below. As within, so without. Drum into my cells the creation of conscious choices to live in natural congruence.
Conclusion
The pink roots represent femininity, innocence, patience, and universal, unconditional love. The blue that filled the oval container represents eternal protection for me, and I felt archangel Michael's energy. I understand that the Eagle represents my clairvoyance or third eye chakra (one of my Clair's, which is part of my mediumship skills) as I soar within myself to receive guidance and visions. The Raven represents my psychic abilities and intuition but also supports my throat chakra, strengthening my voice to articulate messages for healing from Spirit. Raven and Eagle represent authority, wisdom, and the ability to deflect negative energy. The Bear represents my sacral and solar plexus chakras. She is also passionate, has masculine energy, and is a fierce protector. A bearer of spiritual insights brought me a gift of a Citrine crystal associated with positivity and optimism, which is not surprising given its cheerful color. Citrine is often used to assist in manifesting financial abundance and opportunities. Use it to awaken the solar plexus chakra, helping to cultivate confidence and personal power.
It makes sense that Bear brought me a piece of Citrine. I interpret the white pillar that I transformed into after the cloak dropped to be the purity of my soul and the cycle of death and rebirth. Grandfather Tonto with Coyote protects my heart space and heart chakra. They represent hope and transition. The coyote spirit animal represents survival, adaptability, tenacity, resourcefulness, and cleverness. Coyote energy is all about tapping into who you are. They are a direct link to my crown chakra or my divine mind, where I connect with Spirit as described earlier as a crown shape of clear or black ovals within a moving light cloud of purple.
With deep gratitude, I thank my animal spirit guides, guides, ascended masters, angels, my ancestors, and family in Spirit for reminding me that I am loved. We are all very much loved. I continue to trust that they are always with us and easily accessible. I am now and always will be grateful for this medicine drum dreaming journey to connect with the energy of 2023.
